This course is designed for rail professionals who are directly involved with the critical work of installing, setting up, and maintaining points equipment. If your role requires you to perform maintenance, fault-finding, or testing on points fittings, this programme will equip you with the precise skills and competence you need to excel.

  • Set Up Points for Required Openings: Accurately set up Fixed, Adjustable, and Tubular Stretcher Bars to achieve required switch openings using correct procedures and tools.
  • Apply Preventative Maintenance: Implement preventative maintenance procedures for Fixed, Adjustable, and Tubular Stretcher Bars, Mechanical Supplementary Drives, and Supplementary Detectors.
  • Apply Corrective Maintenance: Execute corrective maintenance procedures for Fixed, Adjustable, and Tubular Stretcher Bars, Mechanical Supplementary Drives, and Supplementary Detectors.
  • Diagnose Faults: Effectively diagnose faults on Fixed, Adjustable, and Tubular Stretcher Bars, Mechanical Supplementary Drives, and Supplementary Detectors.
  • Conduct Points Testing: Perform testing of points to relevant industry standards.
  • Identify Components: Accurately identify the components that make up the Tubular Stretcher Bar.
  • Identify Fitting Applications: Determine where and to what rail profiles Tubular Stretcher Bars can be fitted.
  • Select Correct Components: Correctly identify the appropriate tubular stretcher bar components for each rail profile.
  • Respond to Defects: State the required actions upon discovering a stretcher bar defect.
  • Complete Records: Correctly complete the necessary SMS records cards for point maintenance.
