Designed for potential operators with similar earthmoving machine experience, this course provides training on a more technical machine, enhancing skills and boosting employability. Mastering this equipment can open opportunities to win more contracts and expand your capabilities in the construction industry. 

What you'll learn?

As theoretical and practical element are heavily interlinked the below are the key areas covered. 

You will learn: 

  • Site roles and responsibilities; Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as an Industrial Forklift operator 
  • Preparing for work; Name and explain the purpose of principle components, the basic construction, controls and terminology. Conform with manufacturers requirements as per the operator’s handbook, other types of information source a relevant regulations and legislations. Undertake all pre-use checks. 
  • Travelling and manoeuvring; Configure and set for site travel. Fork placement or other attachment handling. Travel to manoeuvre in confined spaces (with and without loads) 
  • Setting up for work; Configure and set for machine duties. Identifying various forms of loads and state of the procedures for their stacking. De-Stacking and separation. Explain actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services. 
  • Working tasks; Correctly loading and unloading vehicles. Pick up and place loads. Drive and manoeuvre the machine forward and reverse, laden and unladen on inclines, in restricted spaces and on level ground (inc rough terrain as applicable) Maintain safe working situations. 
  • Completing Work; Maintain safe and tidy working areas. 
  • Shutting down; Carry out shut down and securing procedures. Parking the machine correctly. Carry out inspection and maintenance tasks (as appropriate. 

Assessment

The theory test is a 40-question test picked at random from a possible 72 questions with 80% pass criteria.  

The practical test is comprised of several elements summarised as, preparing for work, traveling and manoeuvring, setting up for work, working tasks and shutting down. 

The learner will receive a CPCS Trained operator card (Red) which will last 2 years. This will give the learner time to achieve an NVQ level 2 to turn the card from a trained operator card to a competent operator card (lasts 5 years).
