Following the UK Government’s recent announcement of £600 Million Investment in Construction Skills, UK Construction Week London was a pivotal event for us to get together with leading construction partners and employers and discuss the future of construction skills in the UK. Over the course of three dynamic days at the Excel London, our stand (B940) was a hub of activity, conversation, and collaboration.
Over the 3-day event, our team was busy engaging with visitors about our industry-leading construction training and the recent funding announcements that are set to shape the sector. It also gave us chance to connect with some of our existing construction partners, including Lynch Plant Hire.
A key highlight was the interactive poll we ran at our stand, inviting attendees to vote, via beanbag throw, on what they believe are the most pressing skills gaps in construction. The insights gathered didn’t just help instigate conversations but will also help inform how we continue to evolve our training offering to meet real-world needs.
We were especially proud to showcase our Skills Bootcamps which are designed to empower individuals and employers alike with the tools, and funding, they need to thrive in a rapidly changing industry.
We also spoke with employers about qualifying for CITB Funding based on their levy payments (direct with CITB). To coincide with our presence at UKCW, we are offering a 25% discount on CITB accredited commercial short courses (both SMSTS and SSSTS courses and refreshers). These discounts proved hugely popular with visitors to our stand, as such, we have added additional delivery dates through to October for these courses, and have extended our discount if you contact our sales team at sales@cityandguilds.ac.uk.
Overall, all conversations we had with employers and partners at the stand reinforced the importance of future-ready, flexible training pathways that can adapt to the evolving demands of the construction workforce.
As the event wrapped up, we left UK Construction Week London inspired by the passion and innovation we saw across the sector. We’re more committed than ever to supporting the development of a highly skilled, resilient construction workforce—one that’s ready to meet the challenges of the Government’s construction targets, Net Zero goals and skills shortages.
Nick Richards, Head of Sales at City & Guilds Training, said of the 3-day event:
“It was great to be at another UK Construction Week this week, catching up with existing and prospective customers. Many conversations about skills shortages in the Construction sector and how City & Guilds Training can support employers with both funded and commercial training solutions to upskill existing employees and recruit new entrants into their business.”
