Designed for potential plant and vehicle marshaller on site, this course provides training on how to safely guide the movement of vehicles into and around sites. This is a critical function to ensure the safe movement of large machines into and around sites.

What you'll learn?

  • As theoretical and practical element are heavily interlinked the below are the key areas covered. 

    You will learn: 

    • Site roles and responsibilities; Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant and vehicle marhsaller. Identify the roles and responsibilities of the plant and vehicle marshaller. 
    • .Preparing for work; Identify and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate safety control equipment for plant and vehicle marshaller use. Interpret the given information relating to the work and resources when controlling plant and vehicular movement on construction sites.  
    • Setting up for work; Conduct all necessary safety check at the work area including stop blocks and tipping areas. Explain actions required for emergency procedures. Set up a restricted zone for loading and unloading. Identify requirements for the type of vehicle/plant to be guided.  
    • Working tasks; Use signs and signals, approved hand signals, and different forms of communication. Guide vehicles and plant in a forward and reverse direction including restricted space and ‘blind areas’ safely and efficiently. Direct and guide the movement of vehicles and plant to several types of location using different methods of communication. Explain environmental considerations 
    • Shutting down; Carry out all end of work procedures  

Assessment

The theory test is a 40-question test picked at random from a possible 74 questions with 80% pass criteria.  

The practical test is comprised of several elements summarised as, preparing for work, traveling and manoeuvring, setting up for work, working tasks and shutting down. 

The learner will receive a CPCS Trained operator card (Red) which will last 2 years. This will give the learner time to achieve an NVQ level 2 to turn the card from a trained operator card to a competent operator card (lasts 5 years).
