With an unwavering commitment to excellence, and a deep understanding of industry needs, our Skills Academy:
- Transforms individuals with practical work-based knowledge and experience, into impactful and influential educators
- Supports the ongoing development and upskilling of current teachers through peer-to-peer knowledge sharing, industry updates, and top teaching tips.
Teachers and educators play a vital role in providing skills development training to individuals – helping them into work, develop on the job, and move into the next job. Our Skills Academy supports both teachers and educators to continue to do this.
We encourage all members of the Skills Academy to actively participate in peer-to-peer conversations, supporting each other to educate our future workforce.
For professionals currently working in industry
Tailored for professionals in the Rail, Electrical, Engineering or Nuclear industries, our Skills Academy offers a seamless transition into a teaching role.
Our comprehensive re-training programmes are not just accessible but also free* (*subject to successful application & interview).

For professionals currently working in industry, our classes are delivered over nine weeks and are broken down as follows:
- Week 1: Induction, Soft Skills
- Week 2 – 5: Professional Qualification
- Week 6: Micro-Teaching Sessions
- Week 7: Compliance Workshops
- Week 8: E-Learning (Mandatory)
- Week 9: Health & Safety
Upon completion of our nine-week programme, individuals will achieve the certificates they need to work at City & Guilds Training as a core part of our Education & Delivery team.

Once verified as a City & Guilds trainer, individuals will receive a unique opportunity – a guaranteed employment contract** (**subject to availability, achievement of attainment grades, & references).
And that’s not all. Those that successfully complete our nine-week programme will also benefit from access to a resource hub with up-to-date support and industry specific materials.
The resources available support continuous professional improvement, as well as the option to include some of the materials in lesson plans.

Our electrical training facilities at Mitre Court and Explorer 2 are just 2 minutes south of Gatwick Airport. They are comfortable, light and airy environments in which students can learn a wide range of practical and theory based skills.

Phoenix House has raised the bar for electrical training centres in the UK. It’s situated east of Leeds, just off of the M1 / A1. This makes it easily accessible from Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, York, Harrogate and all over Yorkshire.
Portsmouth

Situated in the scenic location of Port Solent, our Portsmouth Training Centre offers lots of bright, light spaces to train in. We also have a state-of-the-art test track to deliver our industry-leading rail training courses such as PTS Practical Event, DCCR, COSS and many more.
